Michigan was one of many schools where posters challenged the freshmen to an annual class contest. Similar challenges were laid down by sophomores at Cornell, Syracuse, Lawrence, Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State), and Allegheny College. The Lawrence University poster also illustrates the alliteration and thesaurus-aided vocabulary ("Pifflicated Pustules") such posters often employed.
